You can find the cache (a false-bird-house) on the top of Saint Michael’s hill (Szent Mihály-hegy) of Örtilos village, where
a popular pilgrim church is. The hill-top is a look-out field to the Dráva river and the Bilo mountain chain.
This area is the place of the medieval Szentmihály village it was annihilated by Turkish army in the course of Osmanly invasion on the south part of Hungarian Kingdom in 16th century. They also destroyed the old monastery of St Paul’s holy order here. After liberation of this land a chapel was built by utilizing the bricks of the ruins of the monastery (A.D.1740).
The patronal festival of this church is taking place yearly on weekend it is very soon time St Michael’s day (Sept. 29.).
This pilgrimage is at the same time the Day of the Friendship without Borders. People flock together here by thousands from Hungary and Croatia. You know there is no frontier station near Saint Michael’s Hill, but this day is the exception. People of Légrád town and the surrounding area of Croatia are arriving by ferry-boats across Dráva river all the day.
In the morning they celebrate two-language Roman catholic holy mass. Later the feast programme begins with participation of Hungarian an Croatian popular art teams (choirs, bands, dance groups etc).
You can approach the little plateau of the church along the tourist path signed by red cross. You can also drive to the church on scartroads and you can park on the grassy plateau. Recommended waypoints:
