Jenny Springers "Plantation III" Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

MrCJDL: Time to archive this series. Scottish Woodlands are doing a fair bit of maintenance work in the planation, removing dangerous/damaged trees, I'm led to believe the plantation is being harvested shortly - and this cache container has sprung a few leaks of late anyway.

So, for now, no more risking your necks on dodgy wee bridges, or getting stuck in the mud [:P]

Perhaps the series will be revived once the dust settles. Thanks to everyone that came a-hunting [:D]

Geocache Description:

Welcome to Jenny-Springers 'Plantation III' !

Jenny-Springer is a bonkers Springer-Spaniel, it was because of her I discovered Geocaching - and we both love it, so I named all of my caches after her. Jenny and her owner regularly go walkies in the woods and forests... she loves bouncing around and exploring the woods, paths, and whatever else she can find !

A quick mini-series to bring you to a short, but pleasant walk along Chestnut Lane, known locally as 'Cheggie Lane'. Just 5 minutes walk up this lane will take you away from the hustle & bustle of the town & city, into the start of the open countryside ! It's kinda like Narnia, but with no snow... though, it has been known !

Mains Plantation, is a large woodland/small forest, created by the developers of the 'Mains' housing estate in Milngavie, around 1980's. Although a managed woodland, the area is generally left to develop in it's natural state.

Getting there:The intention is for this to be done in conjunction with the 'Cheggie lane' caches nearby, so it is suggested that you should park at the given coordinates, and walk up the lane - crossing over Stockiemuir Road and enter Mains Plantation via the gate. Please keep the gate closed upon entry and exit.

There are a number of faint paths here, they all pretty much join up, and will eventually lead you to where you need to go - so just follow your Geo-nose ! Feel free to explore a little, there are lots of wonderful and interesting things to see - plenty of wildlife, deer, birds, bunnies, frogs…

Terrain is rated a 3 as the ground is generally very uneven and can be very wet, muddy and marshy - even in dry conditions. Please wear boots / wellies. There are a lot of fallen trees, and some of the bridges and 'boardwalks' are in varying degrees of disrepair, and very slippery when wet - please be careful around them

DANGER: DO NOT CROSS THE FENCE AFTER CROSSING THROUGH THE OLD STONE DYKE WALL... this will lead into an active quary with open-cast mining and blasting operations... steep cliffs, loose ground and deep water.
OBEY ALL SIGNAGE!

Now that the warnings are out of the way, I hope you enjoy this beautiful location - there are great views from GZ over the quarry and surrounding hills

Whilst you're here, there are a few other caches in close proximity - sylvia01blade's 'Rare Species', and a couple of Scottiedogz 'Bridge2bridge' series(premium only).
