Форум – Одеон
Форумният комплекс е многофункционално публично пространство, включващо открит площад – територия с площ от около 10 дка, заобиколен от юг, изток и запад с портици и отворени към тях магазини. Достъпът в комплекса откъм улиците около него се е осъществявал чрез обособените три централни входа от трите страни, оформени с колонада.
     От северната страна на комплекса са разположени важни сгради свързани с функционирането на местната власт – седалището на градската управа – булевтерионодеон, библиотека, сграда на съкровищата и други все още не проучени обекти. Достъпът до северния портик и тези сгради се осъществява чрез входове, обособени в крайните помещения по линията на магазините в североизточния и северозападния край на комплекса. Пространството в ареата и портика от север е заето от места за публични изяви – екседра, множество постаменти за статуи и надписи, олтари и пр. Констатираните 4 основни строителни периода и множеството преправки, предизвикани от предназначението на отделните му части. В този си вид форумният комплекс фунционира от I до средата на V век. С налагането на християнството през ранновизантийската епоха и промяната на структурата на обществения живот форумният комплекс е изоставен, а строителният материал ограбен. За кратко време останките от градежи се приспособяват за жилища. По-късно, през Х-ХII век, тук се рааполага некрополът на един от средновековните жилищни квартали.

       Одеон (Булевтерион)
Одеонът е единствената цялостно проучена, реставрирана и експонирана сграда в северната част на форумния комплекс. Западно от него е разположен малък плошад, от който в проучения до днес сектор се виждат няколко стълба с полуколони, оформящи пищен портик. Южно от площада е разположена библиотеката с фасада и достъп откъм амбулациото.
Реставрацията на одеона е осъществена през 2001 година. Реставрацията се базира на останките от последния строителен период тук, реализиран след средата на III век, когато градът е разрушен и ограбен от готите.
    Външните фасадни стени, които са изградени в opus mixtum (каменен градеж с редуващи се тухлени пояси), не са възстановени във височина и само очертават правоъгълния профил на сградата. Не е възстановена и дървената покривна конструкция, което дава възможност да се види отдалече вътрешното оформление на сградата. Правоъгълното отвън пространство съдържа типичните за театралните постройки: кавеа с 12 реда седалки, която огражда полукръгла орхестра, ограничена от запад със семпло оформената сценична част - скене. Възстановените, сводести конструкции носеши седалките, са оставени видими от юг. Тежките и масивни някога мраморни седалки днес са заменени с дървени, а от украсата на скенето са върнати на местата им само няколко колони. Възстановена в този си вид сградата дава възможност тук днес, както и в античността, да се провежлат камерни сценични постновки. Някога тук е заседавал градският съвет на Филипопол. В елин пo-късен етап вероятно тук, както на театъра и на стадиона, са провеждани и гладиаторски борби, тъй като във Филипопол не е имало амфитеатър - типичната за римляните сграда с такива функции. С отмирането нa функциите на античната градска уредба в края на IV и началото на V век тази сграда става ненужна. Около средата на V век тя е разрушена. Сводестите помещения стават временно жилища на бездомници. Постепенно строителният материал е ограбен, а през Х-XII век наоколо се разполага един от некрополите на средновековния град.

Forum-Odeon
The Forum complex is a multifunctional public space including an open square, about 10 decares (2.47 acres) in size, surrounded to the south, east and west by porticos and shops facing them. The complex could be accessed from the three sides through the three central colonnade entrances.
      In the northern part of the complex there were some important local government buildings such as the Bouleuterion Odeon (the City Council headquarters, a library, a treasury and other sites that still remain uninvestigated. The northern portico and these buildings were accessed through entrances located at the ends of the shop lines in the northeastern and northwestern parts of the complex. In the square and the portico there were exedrae, places for public disputes and philosophical conversations, numerous statue pedestals, inscription pedestals, altars, etc. The plan and the functions of the Forum complex remained generally unchanged throughout the four main periods of construction and the numerous reconstructions after damage, fire or wear and tear. The Forum complex kept its original appearance and functions from the Ist to the mid-Vth century. The establishment of Christianity in the early-Byzantine period and the subsequent changes in public life caused the Forum complex to decline; it was abandoned and the building material plundered. In a short time, the remains of buildings were transformed into homes. Later on, in the X-XII centuries, the place became a necropolis of one of the medieval residential quarters.

       Odeon (Bouleuterion)
      The Odeon is the only building in the northern part of the Forum complex that has been completely studied restored and exhibited. To the north of it there is a small square, providing a good view of several pilars with semi-columns, forming a magnificent portico, located in the currently studied sector. To the north of the square there is the library, its facade and entrance facing the ambulatio.
      The restoration of the Odeon, completed in 2001. The restoration was based on the remains of the last construction period here, dated to the late century, when the city was demolished and plundered by the Goths.
      The outer facade walls built in opus maxtum (walls made of stone alternating with layers of bricks), have not been restored to their original height, so they just outline the rectangular shape of the building. The wooden roof structure has not been restored, either, thus providing a good view of the building’s interior even from a distance. The Odeon, rectangular from the outside, contains some typical theatre facilities: a cavea with 12 rows of seats surrounding a semi-circular orchestra; behind it, to the west, is the simply designed stage structure called skene. The restored vaulted structures supporting the seats can be viewed from the south. The heavy and once massive marble seats have been replaced by wooden ones and only several columns of the decoration of the skene have been returned to their places. Restored to its present-day appearance, the Odeon is used for chamber perfprmances, just like during Antiquity. It was once the place where the City Concil of Philipopolis debated. Later on, gladiator fights were probably held here, as well as at the Theatre and the Stadium, because Philipopolis did not have and amphitheatre, the typical venue for such games. In the late IVth and earlt Vth centuries, as the functions of the ancient city government withered away, the Odeon became useless. Around the mid-Vth century it was demolished. The vaulted rooms were occupied as temporary dwellings by homeless people. The Building materials were gradually plundered and in the X-XII centuries the place became one of the necropolises of the medieval city.
