Geocache Description:

In Honor of those who have served this country.

This cache is a cereal box sized camo Tupperware container. There is plenty of parking and it is kid friendly with lots of loot inside, including two bugs, a travel coin and some cool foreign money that our dad has brought back from his travels. Mom is still trying to learn how to use her GPS so the Long/Lat may be off by about 20 feet.

The cache is located on the property of the local VFW. The VFW has a rich tradition associated with community service, working closely with other National organizations such as Boy Scouts of America, America Supports You and America’s Promise – The Alliance for Youth. The Ruskin VFW also participates in many local community service projects like feeding needy families and raising money for the fight against cancer, just to name a few. They also hold the Annual Ruskin Veterans Day Parade.

There is a memorial on the property that was created several years ago as an Eagle Scout Project by a local Boy Scout. It is not a big fancy memorial. Instead, it is a small, modest memorial that was a labor of love and is dedicated to the men and women who have lost their lives in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Recently we realized that the memorial was in need of some TLC, we decided to take on the challenge of fixing it up. We are all scouts (two Star Scouts, one Second Class Scout and one Webelo) and our parents are both veterans and dad is still serving on active duty in the US Navy so this was a labor of love for us as well.

This is our first cache. Its placement was kind of a “no brainer” for us. We wanted to honor our parents and all the other veterans, especially those who have made the ultimate sacrifice with their lives and we also wanted to say “thanks” to the VFW for all they do to support our veterans and the local community.

So to our Fallen Soldiers we will always remember and never will forget you

To those who still serve us proudly we salute you

And to those who lend aid and care to our veterans and community we thank you
