Geocache Description:

Sunny South was the brand given to the dairy products produced at the Dumbalk Butter & Cheese Factory from 1894 until it closed in 1969. Nestled in the Tarwin Valley, Dumbalk is an aboriginal word meaning winter, frost and rain and was the traditional land of the Kurnai/Gunai tribe.
The area was settled by pioneers in approximately 1878 and prior to clearing, was well known for its majestic mountain ash trees. As shown in the nearb mural, these trees were so large, they were used as churches, schools and stables. Be sure to look at the historic photos that show the size of these trees and the hardships of the early pioneers.
Take the time to enjoy this pleasant stop-over and have a coffee at the 'On the Way' cafe. The area is famous for its lush pastures and rolling hills - the centre of dairying in Australia.
