Geocache Description:

This cache is a small tin located in the gardens adjacent to St Mary's Priory Church. It contains a log book, small pencil, and small swap items. The nearest parking is at Abergavenny bus station a short distance away.

The cache is placed here to highlight St Mary's Priory Church. St Mary's Priory was a monastery of Benadictine monks founded in 1087 with the church originally being for this priory. However, after the Dissolution of the Monasteries, Henry VIII gave the church to the parishioners for their Parish Church in 1543.

St Mary's Church is now one of the largest and finest Parish Churches in Wales and has a peel of 10 bells. A visit to see the church and it's many historic features is highly recommended. As is a visit to the adjacent Tithe Barn which has interesting, interactive displays and games ideal for children and adults. There is also a great food hall here for the weary geocacher to find some sustenance!

The Church and Tithe Barn are both free to visit but boxes are available for those who wish to donate. For more information visit www.stmarys-priory.org.

This cache is placed with the kind permission of Reverend Canon Jeremy Winston of St Mary's Priory Church.
