Geocache Description:

A cache about Hayao Miyazaki and his amazing movies

It is often hard to weed out the quality foreign films. Especially when the movies come from Japan, where there can be some pretty bizarre content. This being the case, we wanted to create a cache that recognizes some of the most heartwarming, genuine and entertaining movies we have ever seen. Miyazaki is often referred to as "Japan's Walt Disney" and has created many of the highest grossing movies of all time in Japan. His work has entertained us and our children and I was so happy many years ago when a friend pointed us to his work.

Some of his work is a bit heavy dealing with real issues like environmentalism (Princess Mononoke) while others are family classics (My Neighbor Totoro). We have placed a new copy of the following DVDs in the cache. Please feel free to take one. Ideally you will be hooked and maybe even return the movie for others to enjoy (but that is not a requirement).

If you feel so inclined it would be great if you could mention some of your favorite movies.

	My Neighbor Totoro Film critic Roger Ebert of the Chicago Sun-Times identified My Neighbor Totoro as one of his "Great Movies", calling it "one of the lovingly hand-crafted works of Hayao Miyazaki". Ebert reviewed the film, "My Neighbor Totoro is based on experience, situation and exploration—not on conflict and threat," and described its appeal: "...it would never have won its worldwide audience just because of its warm heart". It is also rich with human comedy in the way it observes the two remarkably convincing, lifelike little girls... It is a little sad, a little scary, a little surprising and a little informative, just like life itself. It depends on a situation instead of a plot, and suggests that the wonder of life and the resources of imagination supply all the adventure you need.
	Kiki's Delivery Service This is the story of a young witch, named Kiki who is now thirteen years old. But she is still a little green and plenty headstrong, but also resourceful, imaginative, and determined. With her trusty wisp of a talking cat named Jiji by her side she's ready to take on the world, or at least the quaintly European seaside village she's chosen as her new home.
	Princess Mononoke Princess Mononoke is a period drama set specifically in the late Muromachi period of Japan but with numerous fantastic elements. The story concentrates on involvement of the outsider Ashitaka in the struggle between the supernatural guardians of a forest and the humans of the Iron Town who consume its resources. There are no good and evil in this struggle and the sympathies of the film makers keep switching. There can be no clear victory, and the hope is that relationship between humans and the nature is cyclic.
	Howl's Moving Castle A young woman named Sophie is cursed by the Witch of the Waste, turns into an old woman, and is unable to tell anyone of her plight. Unable to continue her job at her mother's hat shop, she goes to the ambulatory castle of the notorious wizard Howl and insinuates herself into his household. Sophie befriends Calcifer, the fire demon who powers the castle and who is bound to Howl by a contract, the terms of which Calcifer cannot reveal. They promise to help each other with their problems. Like Calcifer, Howl can also see through the Witch's spell, and he and Sophie fall in love. Sophie helps Howl confront his former teacher, and the Witch of the Waste.
	Spirited Away Tale of the fanciful adventures of a ten-year-old girl named Chihiro, who discovers a secret world when she and her family get lost and venture through a hillside tunnel. When her parents undergo a mysterious transformation, Chihiro must fend for herself as she encounters strange spirits, assorted creatures and a grumpy sorceress who seeks to prevent her from returning to the human world.
