Geocache Description:

Description:

This Cache is located in Myrtle Tree Cemetry next to Myrtle Tree Baptist Church on State Route 36. This nice little church was organized on April 24, 1830. The church name came from Zechariah 1:11 ("the angel of the LORD that stood among the myrtle trees").
The first person to be baptized in the new church was John Harvest, a veteran of the American Revolution and I believe he is buried in the north west corner of the cemetry. The present site of the church was constructed in 1880 on land purchased from Samuel Kite in exchange for a calico dress for his wife, Mary.
Myrtle Tree Baptist Church has been called the "Mother of Churches" for branching out to form churches in Mt. Pleasant, Mt. Zion, Millerstown, Terre Haute, and Saint Paris.
