A lovely picnic area along Ostin Nene ... if there were any tables. The city keeps this area mowed, and several kinds of trees prosper, making it one of the prettiest spots in the park. But other than mowing, this part of Optimist Park is undeveloped.
Well ... actually as of 2020 there's an unofficial trail running alongside the creek here, and north around the beaver pond. Follow it for a short hike -- to the Optimist Headwaters cache and on around the pond.
The park is narrow here, and you'll see traffic from roads on both sides. If you choose to park near the cache, PARK TO THE WEST, on Ostin Nene, to avoid climbing through the deep, messy ditch which is Indianhead Creek in this area.
