Fear the Tubas and Jat Mune invite you to a geocaching get-together at the spookiest time of the year, with fun for cachers of all ages....costumes are optional but encouraged.
This event is a chance to meet or reconnect with geocachers from all over the Kootenays (and beyond, everyone is welcome, of course). It will run from 6 pm to 9 pm on Halloween Eve with refreshments and treats and other fun stuff available at the end of this adventurous trail.
The given coordinates will take you to a dark and lonely spot in the haunted "Woods of Despair". To gain entry to the gathering, you must take a heart-stoppingly frightening hike through the woods...and make it out ...alive. The catch? Find the two caches along the way, take one of the goodies found within each cache, and bring them to the gathering as proof of your prowess!
To successfully navigate the bone-chilling "Night-Hike of Doom", you should find your way down the dark and lonely roads of Nelson to the given coordinates with the following:
• a headlamp or flashlight
• a working GPS unit
• nerves of steel
Park at the given coordinates, and look for the Fir tree marked by glowing spots (evil spirits or firetacks...you be the judge) about 5 feet above the ground, and proceed towards it (carefully, watch out for pokey sticks...eye injuries are not spooky, just a bummer). Follow the trail of glowing eyes! The trail zigs and zags about 800 meters through the woods. A line of red dots will help you find the caches!
This trail should lead you directly to the gates of the horrifying and (hopefully) spook-tacular event. The end of the trail will be passing through private property with the owner’s permission - carry on if you dare!
Remember to bring your GPS unit with you so you can find your way back out to your car if you get turned around in the dark...and if you're not the first person to go on the night-hike, please CIBPO (Cache-in, Body-Parts-out)...just kidding (or am I).
