Burnsfield was one of three railway sidings that was set along the Snowtown-Red Hill railway line, completed on September 5, 1925.The land around this siding was once owned by the Burns Family so you can understand how it got its name. The siding is 250mt south of the homestead of the Burns family on Section 160 Hundred of Barunga.
Two loop lines branched off the track at this siding so as to allow trains to pass each other and to allow rail trucks to be parked for loading during grain season.
During construction the railway caused a lot of inconvenience to the local people adjacent to the site as a spur line was built from the siding across the main road (now Highway One). This was done so that a Steam-Savy could be used to raise creek gravel for the railways ballast.
The Burnsfield sign is now adjacent to Highway One but the siding itself is no longer used, so the cache is somewhere in between.
