Geocache Description:

Schoenherr Road (Locally pronounced as Shay'-ner) is a major thoroughfare on the east side of the Metro Detroit Area. Its southern terminus is at McNichols street (near M-3) in the city of Detroit, Michigan, USA. It's a paved road until 26 Mile Road. It is a dirt road north of 26 Mile and terminates north at 29 Mile Road.
Schoenherr Road is a divided highway between Metro Parkway to north of Hall Road.
Schoenherr was named after a German farming family who owned a large amount of farmland which was bought up for the road's construction. The last pieces of this land were purchased to build Sterling Heights High School.
It is of note that Metro-Detroiters pronounce Schoenherr like SHAY-NER, though the original German pronunciation is closer to SHONE-HAIR. It is named after a German farmer who arrived in South Eastern Michigan in 1840. During immigration the name was Anglicized to the present spelling. Some of the family has since adopted the spelling.
Until the late 1980s, Schoenherr did not exist between Utica Road and Clinton River Road, about a quarter mile span. That changed shortly before the closing of Kleino Bridge which was about an eighth of a mile west of Schoenherr.
