Geocache Description:

Ardleigh is a small village in Tendring District, found 4 1/4 miles North East of Colchester. Ardleigh's name comes from two old English words "Ard" meaning "high" and "Leigh" meaning "pasture" and archeological digs show that there has been a settlement in the area since the Bronze Age. Ardleigh is now one of the largest parishes in Tendring

Ardleigh

Near to the cache location is Ardleigh's church; St Mary the Virgin. The church was built circa 1500 and restored in 1882. It is a beautiful building, so do take the time to have a look around.

Down the road towards Colchester, you will find Ardleigh Reservoir. This large expanse of water was constructed to supply water to the surrounding area. The reservoir is approximately 120 acres in size. During most of the year you can take part in water sports including sailing and fishing on the reservoir

The village includes several shops, a fish and chip shop and the most of the public houses serve food too

This cache is a regular sized tupperware box in a camo bag. There is plenty of free parking in the carpark opposite the church. Why not take some time to wander around the village too?

You'll find this cache near the traditional Ardleigh village sign
