This is one of several geocaches I have placed for the SETX Gang Octoberfest 2010 event (GC2B1A8). The event site, Martin Dies Jr. State Park, until 1965 known as the Dam B State Park, is located in Jasper and Tyler Counties between Woodville and Jasper.
The park is a 705-acre recreational area on the 15,000-acre B. A. Steinhagen Reservoir. Visitors can enjoy camping, hiking, boating, canoeing, fishing, swimming, mountain biking, and wildlife and bird watching. As in any woodland environment, you may encounter local wildlife so be aware of your surroundings. I highly recommend bringing insect repellent, a walking stick, and wearing comfortable shoes on this adventure.
Being a state park, there is a $2 per day entrance fee for persons 13 and older. Admission for children 12 and under is free. Please stop by the headquarters to pay your fee. While you are there, get a free "trail" map. It will be handy for finding these caches.
All geocaches have been placed with the permission of the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department. A permit is on file in the Park's headquarters.
The park rangers have asked us to minimize our geo-trails. Consequently, you shouldn't have to do any bushwhacking to get to these hides. I've tried to make them accessible to all levels of geocachers visiting the park.
For this cache, you will be looking for an olive drab star parachute tube. The cache contains a log, pen, and some tradables. Please place it back exactly how you found it. Happy Hunting!
