Geocache Description:

A cache to commemorate a Mustang from 316 Squadron, which crashed into Wives Hill on 29th July 1945

This Mustang was on a ferry flight from base at Coltishall, Norfolk, and was apparently on couse, when at approximately 15:45 hours it hit mist and industrial haze shouded high ground at cruising speed, disintigrating on impact and killing the 24 year old pilot instantly.

All that can be seen now is a boggy crater caused by the crash and enlarged by subsequent excavations. I'm told there are still aircraft parts on the moor, but I didn't spot any.

This area of moorland is particularly desolate and unvisited. The cache itself is a few hundred metres from the crash site. Whichever way you choose to approach, you are very likely find boggy ground.
