MB Sea Monster Multi-Cache

This cache has been archived.

MainePublisher: All geocache placements must have a responsive owner. The cache owner must be able to respond to issues that come up and to submit an "owner maintenance" log to remove the "needs maintenance" icon.

In addition to the "needs maintenance" logs and DNF logs, Goundspeak also uses a Health Score algorithm. https://www.geocaching.com/help/index.php?pg=kb.chapter&id=38&pgid=713

In this case, Groundspeak has sent an email to the cache owner with no response. The cache owner did not respond to any of the cachers hoping to find the cache and did not respond to the reviewer note so the cache is now archived.

The cache location is now open for any Geocacher to place a new cache, including the original cache owner.

Geocache Description:

Sea Monsters is the 6th in a series of Mystical Beings. A 3 stage multi cache with a micro cache in a Burlington park.
Its a magnetic key holder, Please use extreme stealth!!!

Answer questions at the first 2 stages, do a little math and find the final nearby. Its about a quarter mile walk round trip.
I'd park at Perkins pier or the Echo Lake Aquarium and Science Center near either of the stages.

MYSTICAL BEINGS
This Sea Monster is Champ the Lake Monster.

1st stage, go to the listed coords N 44° 28.473 W 073° 13.189, It's a fiberglass statue, that looks like it's been around awhile, judging from the spots in need of repair.
Count the number of upper teeth he has and add this number to 559 for the north decimal minutes.

2nd stage, go to N 44° 28.547 W 073° 13.192, There is a welded steel sculpture by Adam Rumsey. Count the number of points in its dorsal fin. Add this number to 252 for the west decimal minutes.

About Champ:
Champ, or Champy, is the name given to a reputed lake monster living in Lake Champlain. While there is no scientific evidence for the cryptid's existence, there have been over 300 reported sightings. The legend of the monster is considered a draw for tourism in the Burlington, Vermont area.

Like the Loch Ness Monster, while most regard Champ as legend, others have speculated it is possible such a creature does live deep in the lake, possibly a relative of the plesiosaur, an extinct group of aquatic reptiles.

The first reported sighting actually came in 1883 when Sheriff Nathan H. Mooney claimed that he had seen a “…gigantic water serpent about 50 yards away” from where he was on the shore. He claimed that he was so close that he could see “round white spots inside its mouth” and that “the creature appeared to be about 25 to 30 feet in length”. Mooney’s sighting led to many eyewitnesses coming forward with their own accounts of Champ sightings. Mooney’s story predated the public Loch Ness controversy by 50 years.
