Geocache Description:

The cache is located along the eastern side of the Sutter bypass slough. It is about one-half mile from the parking area (see coordinates below) to the cache. Notice the terrain rating...be sure to bring an appropriate tool.

The cache title is the scientific name for the yellow-headed blackbird. The adult male is mainly black with a yellow head and breast, while the female is mainly brown with a dull yellow throat and breast. The breeding area of these birds are cattail marshes in North America, mainly west of the Great Lakes. They nest in colonies, often sharing their habitat closely with the red-winged blackbird. These birds migrate in winter in huge flocks to the SW US, altho some are permanent residents of the San Joaquin Valley. They mainly eat seeds and insects.
