Geocache Description:

This cache is located in conservation area between Manchester-by-the-Sea and Essex. It is easy to get to, Exit 15 off of Route 128. No longer is there an online version of the map available (as of April 2012) however my guess is that the Manchester-Essex Conservation Trust (MECT) is in the middle of amending the situation (the Team Gloucester link is no longer valid).

The Manchester-Essex woods comprise an area of approximately 1,500 contiguous acres which were never farmed. At Cathedral Pines there are extensive rock outcrops and undisturbed soils that result in high species diversity. In addition, both red maple and cedar swamp habitats are present. There are beautiful views from the boardwalks built through the swamp area: look for birds, frogs, turtles and other wildlife. Cedar Swamp Trail is where you’ll be headed. Before we started Geocaching, "Boardwalk through the Wilderness" GCJX57 was the cache placed here by The Eternal Nuggets Team in 2004.

This cache is a 5"x5"x3" Lock ‘n’ Lock, on the border of Cathedral Pines and Millstone Hill. It’s a small container without much (but some) room for swag, so if you really want to hit the jackpot, please visit the Travel Bug "Bed and Breakfast" just over the hill, GC2FPQW. If you like the boardwalks, we recommend you check out GC1DY2K Lizzy's Trail Cache in nearby Hamilton which is similarly pretty and easy.

The First-To-Find prize is different from our usual, a "starter set" of multiple Chilean coins in a deluxe viewing box for the budding (or experienced) numismatist (coin collector (visit link) ). Featured on some of the coins is the Andean Condor, which has the largest wing span of any land bird (visit link) . One of my favorite coins here is the old 100 Pesos, which features the coat-of-arms with the condor and the huemul, an endangered white tail deer. "Por la razón o la fuerza" is the legend on the banner beneath the animals also engraved on the rim of the coin. It means "By reason or by force," which cracks me up because nowadays that motto sounds like "dictator hangover" to me! This FTF prize isn’t here simply to commemorate the incredible 2010 rescue of 33 miners from a mine in Copiapó, but it is a salute to my mother, whose homeland is Chile (visit link) . Like a sea turtle on a juicy open-water jellyfish, chief turtles was there to gobble up the FTF... well done!
