You're not on M-185 any more. This cache is on Mackinac Island's
high ground. You'll be typically 100' to 175' higher then M-185.
The roads are paved with asphalt and trails are mostly dirt. Be
careful while on the dirt trails as rocks and roots can be a
problem in some areas. A hybrid mountain bike could be a good
choice. I have biked these trails many times and there is a small
number of areas where I would get off and walk my bike. The ferry
company's charge extra to have your bike transported. It's much
cheaper then renting one. Walking the trails is also a good choice.
The slow pace makes for more sight seeing chances.
You will be searching for an ammo can. Please re-hide as found
or better. Please trade fair or don't trade.
I highly recommend picking up an "Mackinac Island Map" from the
information booth across the street from the Arnold docks. If the
maps are not in the holders on the front of the building, look on
the sides of the building. For your convenience and planning, you
can view or print the PDF file for the Mackinac Island Map. The one available at the
information booth is printed on a glossy paper and holds up fairly
well when repeatedly tucked in and out of a pocket or caching
bag.
Also for your convenience I have created some non-geocache
waypoints. They are for:
| MIMAPS |
Mackinac Island Maps |
| MITOWN |
In town bathrooms and drinking fountain |
| MISEDRINK |
Southeast Water Fountain |
| MIBRITISHLANDG |
Bathrooms, drinking fountain and snack bar |
| MIUPARCHROCK |
Bathrooms and drinking fountain |
These waypoints can be download as a zipped GPX file here. If I would put these as child waypoints on each
cache you would end up with many child waypoints with the same
coords but different names. If I put them on a couple a cache pages
then you may not download those caches. I would love to hear how
this works out for you or if you have any suggestions.
