Geocache Description:

Rusland Pool (often known locally as The Strands) is at the junction of Ashes Beck & Force Beck. We first came here as a family to launch & race our homemade boats.

Recommended parking is at the nearby Rusland Church. From the church it is then suggested that you walk to the cache via the track starting at the Roadside parking and then returning to the church via the track leading away from the Poolside Parking to Track.

The cache is located on the central piece of land between the two water courses and consequently may require some foot wetting depending on the state of the becks!

The area is accessible for off-road vehicles via the fords of Ashes Beck and Force Beck. However, between 1 October and 31 May every year, the fords are fenced off in such a way that horse-riders can still gain access but wheeled vehicles cannot.

The reason for implementing this restriction (TRO) is to protect the fish stocks in Rusland Pool and both Ashes Beck and Force Beck. These becks provide excellent spawning, juvenile and adult habitat for a variety of fish species including salmonids and also white-clawed crayfish. The salmonid spawning grounds are easily damaged by vehicles stirring up silt and crayfish survival is put at risk through silt clogging their gills and vehicles crushing them whilst they shelter under stones.
