This cache is located near a very tall sweetgum tree that towers above all the other trees in the area. Using geometry, we calculated its height at 116 feet. It can be seen easily from Russell Parkway more than a mile both east and west of the Lake Joy Road intersection. However, once you get closer, the tree is hard to locate because your view of it is blocked.
Coords for the easiest entrance to the cache area are N32° 35.144, W083° 41.434. Parking is available at N32° 35.032, W083° 41.313. Please don’t park or drive on the lower grass area directly in front of the pavilion. Doing so could damage the sprinkler system.
The cache container is large enough for a few very small items or geocoins. While in the area, be sure to take advantage of the picnic facilities, sit a while in the swings, enjoy the fountain, or hike/bicycle on the trails. There is a nice, easy singletrack for mountain bikes tucked away in the woods just north of the cache. NO MOTORIZED VEHICLES are allowed on the trails! If you want to fish, you will need to get a permission slip from the church office, which is open M-F 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Dogs are not allowed in the area now. The area opens at dawn and closes at dusk.
