Geocache Description:

Ammo Box just off Columbia Trail where the Hookerman has been known to lurk.

There is a FTF prize for those who dare to venture into the Hookerman's haunts. Additional contents include an ample supply of glowing goodies to trade.

At times there can be a decent amount of muggle activity on the trail, so make sure the coast is clear. Please re-hide well and make sure the box is latched tightly.

While at the cache location, text the word Hookerman to 41411 for some added fun.

In the dark of night, a hushing breeze whispers along the abandoned railroad beds that branch out from Chester to Long Valley. Through the fog that settles here, a spectral light can sometimes be seen bobbing along the forgotten lines and spurs that were once the arteries of the booming iron industry of Morris County. The flickering glow resembles the light cast from an old lantern and swings gently from side to side as if being carried along the ghostly tracks by an invisible hand. At times it appears oblivious and tragically alone, as if searching for something that has been lost forever. Other times it seems to beckon, challenging those who dare to follow into the darker shadows of the railroad's past.

Legend says it is the ghost of a night watchman on the Bartley/Flanders spur of the railroad who fell into the path of an oncoming train while trying to signal it to stop. Knocked unconscious from the spill, he awoke to find that the train had run him over and cut off his left arm. His severed arm was never recovered. Some said the accident drove him mad, and he was placed in an institution, where he was fitted with a hook to replace his lost arm. After his death, it is said that his spirit wanders the tracks with a lantern looking in vain for this missing arm.
