The word feral describes an organism that was once domesticated and has returned to a wild state.
When I was scouting this location for a cache placement, a feral cat ran away each time I approached the area around ground zero. After returning home, I looked up the word feral. At the time I knew its general meaning, specifically as related to cats, but didn't know the exact meaning. Apparently the word defines any organism that was domesticated and has joined the wilderness. I wondered about the area surrounding the cache. Could it be considered feral too? I am sure it was once a nicer area with manicured trees and and gently sloping bank. But now it has gone wild and is in need of some 'domestication'.
The container is a plastic vitamin bottle with space for the log and small trade items. Please bring your own pen and CITO the area if you can. As for parking, it may be difficult to find real close parking but there is a convenience store just a quick trip to the east.
Make a note in the log if you see a cat. The following information is from www.alleycat.org
NEVER attempt to pick up a feral cat, particularly to put her in a carrier or trap. No matter how sweet she seems, handling a cat who has never—or not recently—been touched will frighten and stress her. She may struggle to get away and harm you in the process. With no vaccination records, she is bound to be killed or put into quarantine. Use the correct trapping practices outlined below and ensure the safety of both you and the cat.
