Geocache Description:

Visit what is reportedly the oldest tree in South Australia.

What is known as the oldest tree in South Australia is located in a homeowners yard. The cache is approximately 40m East of a spot where you can see the tree.

The tree is called the "Big Gum Tree". According to "Flinders Ranges Research" the tree has a girth of 13.843 metres, is 25 metres tall and is more than 600 years old. Like many old river red gums, the centre of the tree has a large cavity.

During the time of first settlement of this area, the "Big Gum Tree" served as a temporary residence for new settlers. The present owner of the tree appears to be using it as a garden shed.

The cache is in a public accessable area. Under no circumstances attempt to enter the homeowners property.

Watch out for muggles, especially during cherry season as there will be pickers and buyers around during this time.

Cache is relatively easy to get to, but there is a ditch close to GZ which can be hidden by long grass at certain times of the year. Please exercise caution.
