Geocache Description:

Who is the Master of the Station.

Tarcoola was proclaimed a town on February 21, 1901. The town is named after Tarcoola the winner of the 1893 Melbourne Cup. The horse Tarcoola had been raised on Tarcoola Station on the Darling River. Tarcoola in the local aboriginal language around Tarcoola Station means river bend.

At the turn of the century Tarcoola was a gold mining town and the field is still occasionally worked today. The availability of plentiful water from bores was the reason for the settlement of the town as a railway siding.

Tarcoola is still an important railway junction. From a point just west of the township the Ghan line heads north to Darwin, and the Indian Pacific line heads west to Perth.

The cache itself is a 1L container.
