Because it is completely removed from Texas, this easy 5-stage multi-cache (is there such a thing?) has only a coincidental connection to the Matt Judge animated series of the same name. This is our first multi-cache and our first Topsfield cache, it is designed to give you a tour of the pleasant trails here.
Topsfield resident beach members will be lucky in that they may access this cache from the Hood Pond Beach side, which is private. The rest of us (non-members) may access this cache from Rowley Road.
This cache borders Hood Pond, which measures 68 acres and shares a northern border with Willowdale State Park. A cart path parallels the southern edge of the pond at the Topsfield town line. The forest has a mix of pine trees and deciduous trees including oak, maple and birch. This forest is the John C. Nutter Memorial Forest in memory of Mr. Nutter who lived on Ipswich Road and was active in town affairs as a conservationist.
The trails are wide, well-maintained, and dog-friendly. The Topsfield side (this cache and its parking spot) offers a nice walk, but little else of what the State Park has to offer, so we recommend while in the area you check out our nearby book cache, GC2H4XC Robn’s Hood Reads. The Related Web Site link above takes you to the relevant part of the DCR web site.
All of the stages are micros, except for the final stage which is a small container, a 5”x5”x2” Lock ‘n’ Lock. All of the micros are within 40-50 feet (12-15m) or so of the trail, the hint will help keep your bushwhacking to a minimum. Also each micro stage is an imperial yard off the ground. Be careful as you grab some of the stages for this cache, as muggles may approach from either side from a distance, as if they are jealous of your strategically-located “castle” on the hill. To protect from them, you won’t have a moat, but you will have stealth. When you find the final stage, please DO NOT MOVE the protective “crown” that allows us to endow this cache with the “Available in winter” attribute. The crown is 100% biodegradable and environmentally friendly, and thereby somewhat delicate. Thanks in advance!
We’ve populated this cache with tradable goodies that will be typical of our new caches to start. This combination of swag is likely to include: a collectible coin in a viewing box, a plastic coin pack, a fresh deck of cards, a Hot Wheels car, a rubber ball, stickers, and a fresh pair of alkaline AA batteries.
First-To-Find prize is rarer than our usual leave, two Spanish coins in a deluxe viewing box! Juan Carlos I was their king when my brother and I first went to Spain, so I felt Juan was a representative coin subject for this cache. We added a regular trade item of a British Elizabeth II coin from 1966 to acknowledge:
1. It’s hard to have a king without a queen, and
2. Huzzah for the new Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and their recent nuptials!
When you complete this cache, please ask yourself: “Is it so difficult to be King (/Queen) for a day?” If not, please further reward your efforts by visiting our neighboring cache, please note the distinct parking waypoint. Enjoy! Froedo Bagginz rules as the FTF monarch.
