Login's Well has an interesting history over many years.
Stromness had a strong link with the Hudson Bay Company and ships from the Company watered from the well between 1670 and 1891.
Captain Cook's vessels Resolution and Discovery used the well in 1780 and Sir John Franklin's ships Erebus and Terror on Arctic exploration during 1845 watered from the well.
Many merchant vessels also used the well in former days before it was finally sealed in 1931
