Geocache Description:

This is a variation of a previous cache here that disappeared some time ago. This one is placed out of the main pathways of the dwellers on Mars Hill and hopefully will last longer. Muggles will call for stealth at times; plenty of parking on the weekends.

Greenwood Cemetery was the pioneer cemetery in Flagstaff. It was located under the tennis courts and south toward Mars Hill Road.

By 1914 the limitations of Greenwood Cemetery were such that the city council decided to move those remains here to Citizens Cemetery which had been established by various fraternal organizations in 1891.The gentleman who handled the tranfers was paid per grave with an extra stipend for tombstones. His accounting to the city council indicated that he moved about 40 graves. At the time of the proposed move 64 graves were counted. Legend has it that the balance are still there which puts new meaning into a 'spirited' game of tennis. The story is too good for another Halloween to slip by without a retelling.
