The Strangles is a small boulder-strewn beach just west of the
triangular Samphire Rock. Many a ship has foundered here and a look
at this coast in a winter gale will indicate why. The descent to
the beach must be one of the longest and trickiest around as it
lies 223 metres (731 feet) below the clifftop. Best seen from the
cliffs where you can make out the Samphire Rock, Northern Door Arch
and the headland of Cambeak. I have been told that there is No
Swimming permitted at The Strangles. The return trip up the cliff
path is an arduous one.
The coastal path keeps fairly close to the cliffs and offers
excellent views throughout. There are dramatic changes in
terrain.
The paths can be slippery in wet weather. Please keep to the marked
trail. Keep dogs & small children on a lead.
