This cache is in memory of our Mum, Kate McMahon, who was an avid hill walker and adventurer. It's a shame she wasn't alive when we discovered geocaching, as she would have LOVED it. This cache was placed on her 3rd year anniversary.
The cache is literally 3 minutes walk from the carpark, but you can't see your car from this spot.
From this cache, there are lovely views up the hill to the JB Malone Memorial, (the man that conceived of the Wicklow Way), over Lough Tay, across to the dramatic cliffs of Luggala, and down to the beach on the Luggala Estate, which is known locally as the Guinness Estate owned by the Guinness Family. The white sand of the beach was imported. Some people think the white sand represents the head of a pint of Guinness and call the lake the "Guinness Lake". You have a wonderful vista of many other mountains in the distance from here - ahead you can see Scarr and the outline of Turlough Hill hydroelectricity plant and to the right the distinctive mast of Kippure.
