Nejstarsi zminka o tvrzi je z roku 1368. Kolem roku 1394 ziskal Kouty pro svuj rod Jarohnev Kejhak z Krecovic. Roku 1600 pak Borek Nepolsky prodal Kouty Jirimu Vitovi ze Rzaveho po jehoz smrti bylo panstvi v roce 1606 prodano Kunhute z Rican, coz byla manzelka majitele nedalekeho Smilkova Jana z Talmberka. Koutecke panstvi tak bylo pripojeno ke Smilkovu. Tvrz tak nebyla obydlena a zacala chatrat. Jeji zdivo udajne stalo jeste v 18. stoleti a roku 1813 bylo az na nekolik zdi zboreno. Tvrz byla postavena na ostruvku uprostred rybnika. Ze zapisu o deleni tvrze z roku 1546 vypliva, ze se tvrz skladala ze tri budov. Byl to stary dum s vezi nad mostem, novy dum a hostinec.
