Geocache Description:

Come celebrate on 12-12
Meet and greet fellow cachers.
Celebrate ikolor's birthday!! This is her gift to you! Please, no gifts for her.
Partake in the Gauntlet!!
Potluck dishes to share, requested.
Markham Park - Shelter #4
10 am - 3 pm

ikolor's having a birthday, and it's a big one! It's got a 0 (enclosed number) on the end. A 2 on the front. Or is that a backwards upside down digit? Really!?! So, ikolor and radioman's gift to you is this 12-12 event.

What better way to celebrate a birthday than caching and spending the day with good friends! The best gift ikolor can receive for her birthday is the gift of giving back, so this is her (and radioman's) gift to her friends and family, a party for all to have a great time and be with fellow cachers and friends.

Meet and greet, Louie Bliss, a Groundspeak Lackey, who will be in town and is planning on stopping by the event to meet South Florida cachers. Louie Bliss works for Groundspeak in Seattle as a Community Relations Extraordinare. She is the proud lackey that maintains the HQ cache, GCK258B, with its own icon and is one of the most sought after caches in the world. Please attend and join us in giving Louie Bliss a warm south Florida welcome.

Meet and greet other cachers. Put faces to the names you have seen in the logs. Maybe even Hugo Nyow will show up! Share some stories. Help solve puzzles. Eat some food. Find caches hidden in the park. Run the gauntlet! Win some prizes!! Have a lot of fun!

Pets are allowed in the park but must be kept on a 6' leash unless they are in the Barkham at Markham dog park.

There is a $1.50 fee per person to enter the park on the weekends.

Please post what you will be bringing as your potluck contribution. We will be supplying burgers, hot dogs, and chicken.

Please post how many will be attending and how many will partake in the gauntlet.

THE GAUNTLET

We hope to begin the Gauntlet around 10:30ish. We have placed a series of caches along a route in Markham Park. You will be given coordinates for the "Starting Point" where teams will start and will be given the necessary information and coordinates to complete the Gauntlet.
From the Starting Point, teams will travel back to the "Ending Point". Along the way it will be necessary to find all the placed caches (which will be activated after the event). Also, there will be a list of "Targets" to find to earn "Bonus Points". These will be scavenger hunt type items. Some are features of the park and some will be planted just for the event. In addition, there will be some special items placed at points along the way. They will be numbered. Each team will draw a number unique to their team and will need to locate and retrieve the special items bearing that number for additional Bonus points.

Points will be calculated as follows:

First of all, it's golf style scoring - the lower the score the better. The number of minutes it takes to complete The Gauntlet will be your Base Score. To that will be added Penalty Points for any caches DNF'd. From that total, we will subtract the Bonus Points. The lowest score wins! It is HIGHLY recommended that you form teams of 4-6 participants.

What to Bring - Each team participating in the Gauntlet will need a GPS and a Digital or Instant Camera.

You will need a writing instrument to sign the log sheets. Tweezers may be helpful too.

Also, a clip board may be handy as there may be some writing involved.

Water is probably a good idea too.

And bug spray and sun screen.

You can drive to most stops along the way. Please obey the speed limit in the park which is 15 mph. You can also ride bikes, roll wheelchairs, power scoot, skate or walk.

Trail Conditions - The trail is mostly firm and dry. There will be little if any bushwhacking involved.

Distance - The total distance will be approximately 3 to 4 miles.

Starting Coordinates - If we told you that we'd have to tie you naked to the flagpole. Check the flagpole on the way into the park to see if anyone is tied to it. Starting coords will be provided to teams at the start of the Gauntlet.

Prizes; There will be a selection of prizes. There will likely be geocoins, other trackables and caching accessories involved.
