Just east of here was the uranium mining town of Shirley Basin, Wyoming. There was a Post Office, school, store, and about 300 houses and mobile homes.
When uranium prices plummeted following the 3-mile Island incedent in Pennsylvania, the mining industry took a severe hit. During those drastic production cutbacks the whole town was loaded up and moved to Gas Hills, Wyoming which now has also been abandoned.
The now defunct Joe Humphrey Trucking and Housemoving of Evansville, Wyoming moved most of the permanent structures and many of the mobile homes when the town of Shirley Basin was disolved.
A few trees can be seen on the crest of the hill to the east still struggling to survive. They help to remind us that just a generation or two ago several hundred people made their homes here and expected to live here for a long, long time.
Watch for things that can stick, sting, or bite you, too!!
Congratulations to fishguy2019 for First to Find!! WAHOO!!!
