cervisvenator: Hi

While I feel that Geocaching.com should hold the location for the cache owner and block other cachers from placing a cache in the area around this cache for a reasonable amount of time, we can’t do so forever.

Nothing seems to happen with this cache listing, so it is now archived, so that someone else can place a cache in the area, and geocachers can once again enjoy visiting this location. Also, if it hasn’t been done already, please pick up any remaining cache bits as soon as possible.

If the owner wants it reopened, send me an e-mail and I’ll be happy to unarchive the cache listing if it still satisfies the requirement/guidelines.

(This reviewer note is in English so non-Norwegian cache owners, geocachers and cache reviewers can understand what it says.)

Thanks for your understanding,
Cervis Venator

Geocache Description:

USBL

I 1952 besluttet USBL å avvikle dugnaden.

  • Pilen
  • Asken
  • Heggen
  • Bjørka
  • Furua
  • Ospa

USBL

The building society USBL was incorporated on 8 December 1948 by young and enthusiastic people. Housing distress was great, and very few homes were built in Oslo in the first years after the war. Having your own home was a dream, a hope, a requirement.

The organization began with two empty hands and an idea. The idea proved to be sustainable. An organization emerged. The first homes were completed in 1951 - built by volunteers. A total of more than 10 000 homes have been built in the period 1948 to 1998.

The building society USBL, which was founded in the shadow of the mighty Oslo Bolig and Sparelag (OBOS), is today Norway’s fourth largest building society, both in numbers of members and number of homes under management. Today (2010) USBL has over 51,000 members and manages 26,500 homes.

In the start construction was feasible on a voluntary basis where they subsequently were assigned housing for volunteer points. A volunteer point corresponded to a volunteer hour. The requirement of voluntary effort at all to be considered for the new apartments was sky high. Some members had in just over one year managed to collect over 1100 volunteer points. This means that in addition to a regular job they had been credited with over 1,100 hours of volunteer work. This was in the beginning of the 1950s, more than a half-year’ work.

In 1952, USBL decided to discontinue the voluntary basis. The reasons were several. With the award of Årvoll areas, which would give place to 1100 flats in blocks, increased pace of construction work and made it necessary to hire professional workers. But it was crucial that the USBL focused on a new construction method of precast elements and cranes. Residential construction was to be an industry. Therefor it was no longer room for volunteer workers.

Lindeberg

15 January 1973 USBL invited members to attend the People's House. Oslo Municipality had in the spring of 1972 presented the plans for the new buildings at Furuset. USBL had been awarded a big area; field J, at Lindeberg where everything was ready for the construction of approx. 900 new apartments for members of USBL. The result of the meeting was that it was created a reference group for planners. The group had approx. 50 members. It was also made contact with the political youth organizations. USBL wished that these would contribute to efforts to identify how youth rooms could be designed as part of a larger living environment.

An example of the influence of the group received was the decision that the living area would be pedestrian. Another example is the decision that in some of the stairwell there would be a toilet that children should have access to. Thus did they had to run all the way home every time they were "needy".

After a initiative of the USBL, it was established a company - a joint ownership - which was tasked to build a “nærsenter” with the service center. In addition to the condominium building parking garages and parking lots. As an integral part of the service center should be established a joint caretaker service for all housing cooperatives. In short, the sevicecenter is supposed to be the centerpiece of the soft furnishings of Lindeberg.

Lindeberg has these building societies:
  • Pilen
  • Asken
  • Heggen
  • Bjørka
  • Furua
  • Ospa
