Geocache Description:

"REMINDER: MICHIGAN CEMETERIES ARE ONLY OPEN DURING DAYLIGHT HOURS - DO NOT DO THIS CACHE AT NIGHT"

“Michigan Spirit
Quest”

The Michigan Spirit Quest series of
geocaches will take you to a number of historic
cemeteries

built by MICHIGAN Pioneers. This series is inspired by and is a
continuation of the Indiana Spirit Quest caches created by
SixDogTeam. In just over two and a half years, the SPIRIT QUEST has
grown to over five hundred and fifty caches and the hiders have grown
to twenty-five cacher teams in 3 states and one province, most of
which are comprised of
Dogs and their Humans. Over 1,000
cachers
have logged over 20,000 finds. One cache machine found 102 ISQ
caches in a single day (daylight hours only).

There is a burial plot in Lakeview Cemetery, in Elk township, just north of the plot occupied by Anton, Karen, and Henry Matson. The plot is surrounded by an iron picket fence and only one person is buried there. The inscription on the headstone reads: Frederica R. Baker, August 12, 1866 - August 7th, 1917, Physician - Friend." >

Most people, including those from Camp Martin Johnson, probably don’t realize that there was a second camp on Big Bass Lake which at the time of that camp was known as Lake Na-Tah-ki (By an act of Legislature in 1907). Dr. Fredrica Baker purchased land from William P. Jones and she named her cottage Okwa Lodge (Welcome). She came up with the idea to create a camp for little girls from both families she knew and also from clients she had as a obstetrician. She was the all in all at that camp. They traveled to that camp on the Goodrich Steamship Line across Lake Michigan from Chicao to Muskegon. They then took the Pere Marquete train to Peacock where they were met by Anton Matson with his horse and buggy. Quite a trip! It seemed that Anton then owned the Lakeview Resort and many of the campers had their meals either there or at the Old Homestead Resort.
LOGS ON THIS CACHE THAT INDICATE NIGHT CACHING
