Geocache Description:

Bring your own writing utensil.

You don’t have to go far in Las Cruces to see fantastic artistic expressions through murals, mosaics and paintings. The works, often depicting rich history, are accomplished by the creative hands of artist, Tony Pennock. In spring 1972, a senior at Mayfield High School, Mr. Pennock asked the Las Cruces Chamber of Commerce if he could paint a mural on the large city water tank on the east side of town, next to the interstate. It was the first significant public art project in Las Cruces, and the New Mexico Bicentennial Commission selected the mural as the state’s first official bicentennial project. Mr. Pennock has shown his appreciation for the area, painting nine murals in Las Cruces and the surrounding areas
