I have always been a fan of the Illinois Tollway Oasis System. My family used to take a lot of road trips when I was young and these stops were always my favorite. It was cool to sit above the highway and watch cars drive by underneath.
Sadly, the new Oases are not as cool as their predecessors. The originals included raised seating areas (which in retrospect were ADA nightmares) and sometimes play areas and video games. The new ones are bright, white, bland, wide open food courts. But I still like stopping here on trips to/from Naperville and getting something to eat or drink while sitting and watching the traffic fly by underneath.
When I saw the episode of Stargate: Atlantis introducing the concept of a "oasis" between galaxies, I thought of this spot and what it has meant in my life, making it a perfect spot for my first cache hide.
