Geocache Description:

The cache is located just off of a public footpath and can be accessed very easily. Most of the short walk is over a flat field.

This field was opened in 1994 to commemorate 100 years of Parish Councils and is located near to St Peter’s church. The black beacon was part of a string of beacons which were lit on New Year’s Eve in 1999 to celebrate the new millennium. The first of this string of beacons was lit on a barge on the River Thames by the Queen, setting off a chain of beacons all across the UK. Within minutes, over 1400 similar beacons were set alight across England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland to welcome the new century. There were also huge beacons set alight in major cities like London and Edinburgh. This was also part of a major fundraising event for many different charities and was also meant to encourage local residents to meet and celebrate together with each other.
The cache container is a fairly large cylinder, inside a camo bag. It contains a log book, a pencil and some novelty toy swaps.
