Boundary Issues
Over the past few years, I have dealt with boundary issues in and around the Birkhead Wilderness as the rules kept changing. One year, it was fine to hide within the wilderness, but not within the national forest land bordering it. Another year, the rules were reversed. This was due to those that managed the land. Thanks to markcase, we had a meeting with one of the rangers and finally received permission to hide caches within the national forest land surrounding Birkhead! She even gave permission to create as many virtual type caches as possible within the wilderness itself. Permission granted, I went about the task of moving everything I had in the wilderness.
This cache used to be hidden at the top of the hill to the east. Before that, it had been hidden atop another hill further to the east. This area here is just west of the markers showing the border between Birkhead and the national forest. I placed this cache while I was mapping the northern area.
The cache is a peanut butter jar from fraygirls' Diamond Mine cache. I think I picked it up in 2008. It has been hidden in the Birkhead Wilderness since 2010, so I know the container is excellent.
The path to this cache is a nice descent. Watch for slippery leaves. As for the ascent... that's the terrain rating.
