Lake Otamangakau known to locals as The O, is a man made hydro lake part of the massive Tongariro hydro project.
The lake is renowned for great fishing (Taupo license required) and has magnificent panoramic views of surrounding Mountains Ruapehu, Tongariro, Pihanga, Tihia, Kakaramea and Kuharua.
Access is from SH47 1km from the intersection with SH46 and is well signposted. The road is sealed but watch for logging trucks and untethered horses.
The cache is at the boat ramp. Please replace the 700ml Sitema cache carefully.
The road continues around the lake but soon becomes gravel. It comes out near another TK cache at the Wairehu Canal
