Prior to this building the congregation met at a farm on Weymouth Road near the NJCRR. The deed for this property was recorded in the Gloucester County Clerks Office Nov 4 1808. "The deed was given by William and Hope Hollingshead as a gift to the church, the grantors as only a nominal price of $1.00 is usmed".
This church was part of the Salem Circuit and the original preachers were Rev Benjamin Iliff and Daniel Higby.
"It has been a service of wonder why the church was built in so isolated place instead of near a setlement, but it is probable that the location was not their chsing, but being a gift was received with grateful hearts and being central was easy access to the sparsely settled districts".
It is believed the the lumber used to build the church was sawn at the Pancoast Mill.
Some of the prominant settlers of the area are interred in the church yard. Archibald Campbell, proprietor of Campbell's Tavern and Revolutionary War veteran is interred there. If you should wander the cemetary, please be respectful. Thanks for caching with me
