From the vantage point near the cache you will
see 5km of beach and marine reserve stretching away to the North,
past Brightwater (about half way), to Olifants Point in the
distance. Below you, to the North West is Hoek van Bobbejaan which
is also the final resting place of two wrecks. The Aggie (1961) and
the Phyllisia (1968).
The Phyllisia, a 452 ton Cape Town trawler,
struck the jagged rocks about 100m off shore, around midnight on 3
May 1968. Eleven of her crew reached the shore in life rafts, but
fourteen still remained on the trawler and were airlifted to safety
by two air force helicopters.
To reach the cache, park at the Gifkommetjie
parking area, S34° 19.035 E018° 25.208, and take the trail heading
North West. Continue past the view point and follow the path all
the way to the cache location.
If you would like to do a circular walk,
continue North down the ridge until you reach a junction. There is
a path to the shipwreck and another unmarked path just to the left
of it, heading South. Follow this path and after a short while it
will join up with the main trail that follows the coast line South
East toward Gifkommetjie, eventually ascending back up to the car
park.
