Geocache Description:

The posted coordinates are parked in the middle of I 480. The actual geocache container is not at that location. To find the actual location of the container - you must run and complete the Days of Thunder Wherigo cartridge.

What is a Wherigo Geocache?
Wherigo is a new way of utilizing GPS technology to play games, take tours, and yes geocache. Visit Wherigo.com to learn more about this new software.

Do I need special equipment?
Yes! To find this cache the proper way and to truly experience the hunt the way it was meant to be experienced, you will need two things:

  1. The Wherigo Player on Wherigo compatible Hardware or a Smartphone App for Wherigo. (ie: Where You Go)
  2. The "Days of Thunder" cartridge

Garmin Colorado

The Wherigo Player comes pre installed on the Garmin Colorado & Oregon series GPSr units. A version of the player is available for download for use by GPS enabled Pocket PC devices. Click "Download Player" to get the PPC version.

The Setting:

The posted coordinates is where you be entering the highway heading west bound already running the cartridge. If you remember the movie - the cartridge is based on racing as well. You will have red and green flags and you may or may not end up being the winner.

The Experience:
Your name is Lucky. You will be driving a Jalopy patched with Bondo all over and having only 3 wheels, 2 axles, and only 1 strut. You will have the chance to see the Green Flag fly and see if you can get the jalopy even up to a legal driving speed. This Wherigo cartridge will have you going up I-480 west bound burning oil the entire way while leaving a blue haze behind you. Watch out for the red, white, and blue flags as you may have to restart this cartridge or perhaps never have the opportunity to finish it.

The cartridge should take under 30 minutes to complete. Once you complete the cartridge you will be given the coordinates to the final cache location.

Is logging my result any different for this cache?
Logging your results here on geocaching.com is no different than any other cache (and you get a new icon on your profile page so no changes there).Icon

Unlocking the cartridge on Whereigo.com is not required, but it would be greatly appreciated. After you've completed the cartridge you should see a "Days of Thunder.gws" file on your device. On your Garmin Colorado or Oregon, you will find it in the Wherigo/Saves directory. You can upload this file to Wherigo.com and it will "Unlock" it, giving you credit for completing the cartridge (on the Wherigo site too). It will also help track the number of completions for this cartridge. Again not required, but I would really appreciate it if you did. You may also complete the cartridge by visiting the cartridge page and Write a Log.

Hints for this Cache:
Start the cartridge using the waypoint on the page here. Watch for the Boys in Blue, the Po-Po's, the "Five - OH", "The Man With The Badge", the P - I - never mind you know what we mean.

Please replace the cache container exactly the way you found it or better to keep it hidden!

Logging requirements:
Once you successfully complete the cartridge - it will give you a completion code. Please email me that code. This is a requirement allowable by Groundspeak. No logs will be accepted without it.

Please note - the development and player software is still in alpha stage and you may experience issues running it.
