A small cache near a newly erected memorial to the 9-11 disaster.
One year ago, in November 2009, the new 9-11 memorial in Arazim Valley (Valley of the Cedars) near Jerusalem was inaugurated. The project to erect the monument was led by KKL-JNF (Keren Kayemet - Jewish National Fund). The initiative and donation are of Ed Blank, a leader of JNF America. The monument was designed by sculptor Eliezer Weishoff, who gave the tragedy tangible form by casting a US flag folded into the shape of a memorial flame in bronze. The base of the monument is inlaid with a shard of aluminum from the wreckage of the Twin Towers, and the monument’s location in Arazim Valley at the approach to Jerusalem expresses Israel's and the United State's shared battle against terrorism. The names of the 2,779 victims of the terrorist attack are inscribed on the walls surrounding the plaza. (part of the text by KKL).
A small cache is hidden on the outer edge of the monument, on the ground, at the base of a stone wall. It started with a red skate travel bug, made by a local geocacher.
Part of the challenge is getting to the monument - you can find some good Hebrew descriptions in the net, and sporadic Hebrew signs on the way from Motza interchange, but visitors may find it tricky. You can get your car to within 30 feet from the cache.
