Geocache Description:

The Saint Francis Cemetery has been around since 1857. Directly across Main Street from the City of Tonawanda Cemetery, the area houses some very old burial plots in very spaced out segments. As a child growing up in the area, my friends and I played hide and seek in there for years, built forts in the overgrowth next to the railroad tracks which backstops the cemetery, and rode our bikes along the paths that run through it.

In the past few years, the city has fenced in the cemetery and erected an archway at the Main Street entrance. Parking is available on Kohler Street which runs along the north section of the cemetery. Although there are no posted visiting hours, the cemetery is open for viewing everyday from dawn to dusk. No night caching. As with any cache in a cemetery, please be mindful and respectful of the graves. There are many old stones from the Civil War era, including veterans, which are unique to the area.
