Geocache Description:

NOTE: Park near the observatory in the visitor parking spaces to avoid being ticketed by campus police. Please be polite and cooperative with our campus police if you are stopped; they work hard to keep our students and employees safe.

Avoid hunting the cache after 10 p.m. on weeknights or after dark on weekends. Campus is generally closed during Christmas week and spring break.

This is the first cache planted by CCBC Dundalk's caching team. The team is made up of faculty, students, staff, and alumni. We want to invite geocachers to visit our college and get to know a little bit more about it.

Don't just cache and dash; spend some time walking around this beautiful little campus. There are thirteen gardens tucked away into nooks and crannies all over the grounds. The cache is hidden in one of the only areas on campus allowed to grow wild.

CCBC Dundalk is known for a number of outstanding programs, one of which is its horticulture program. The many gardens on campus are a result of the planning and hard work of the program's faculty and students as well as the ongoing maintenance performed by the amazing groundskeeping staff, the head of which is a master gardener. He explained to us that the part of the campus in which the cache is located in known as a "succession forest."

The area started as a refuse pile for leaves, branches, excavated soil, and all other types of cast-off vegetation. The pile eventually grew so large it got to be nicknamed "the mountain." It was left to grow and thrive on its own, only subject to periodic mowing. Eventually, trees and other native plants took root. Now there is a small forest growing here, one that "succeeded" the original garbage heap, thus the name of this cache, the Succession Garden.

The cache is a Lock-and-lock container in camo tape. It holds lots of little toys and CCBC-related swag. We are using this cache to launch the team's first travelbug, College Daze, and we've put in a FTF geocoin for the lucky person to snag the cache first.

Disclaimer: This cache was hidden by the CCBC Geocacher's faculty advisor, StellalunaG, so that the members of the team could practice caching and log the find under their individual gc.com usernames and so there will be a cache on campus the team can use to help introduce other members to the game without having to take them far.
