Geocache Description:

Come stop by for an easy cache in cute little downtown Carrollton! The cache is in a plastic jar at a city landmark only two blocks away from I-35 and one block away from the new DART Green Line tracks. This cache originally was a two-stage puzzle cache from 2005 to 2010 before construction on the nearby light-rail line altered the site of the first stage. Now it is an easy, traditional cache. Don't step on the flowers!

This cache was renamed "Downtown Carrollton" after we were forced to change it from a multi-stage cache to a traditional cache. Our old cache was called "Rainbow Tower" after the grain elevators a block away from the downtown Carrollton square. My children used to call it the "rainbow tower" because it used to be painted in colored stripes. However, in May 2007, the city of Carrollton painted the old grain elevators white because their stripes were so faded. The tower now proclaims "Downtown Carrollton Station," and the old silos are now used as a climbing gym. In 2007, DART (Dallas Area Rapid Transit) began extending its light-rail commuter tracks north through downtown Carrollton. The new tracks are only feet away from the old "rainbow tower"! The new DART Green Line opened in December 2010. It leads all the way south into downtown Dallas and allows folks to ride to the Dallas Zoo and Fair Park. This new cache is stroller-accessible. Your biggest challenge will be finding a legal place to park if you come at a busy time. Watch for muggles! Take a few moments to look around this historic spot. With the new Dallas light-rail train line a block away, the old downtown square is experiencing a revival. Old buildings are being renovated, and new apartments and cafes are springing up. To the south of the cache is our historic movie theater, still in operation for special events. To the north and east are shops selling antiques and gifts. The center square was recently redone, with new fountains, stylish seating and plantings. While you're here, you may want to eat at Babe's homestyle chicken restaurant. It's yummy and fun, with a jukebox that plays country tunes and waiters and waitresses who dance to the "Hokey Pokey." Thank you for visiting our quaint old downtown! The city also has many other caches for visitors and residents to find. Stop and stay awhile!
