Geocache Description:

preform soda bottle

How did you find your first Geocache?
We found our first cache in early March of 2003. It was called Indian Beach and was located under rocks at the seawall in Bucktown, Metairie.

How did you choose your handle?
When my oldest daughter was an infant we called her different nicknames, the one that stuck was Bamboozle which I still call her. It came from the name of a cartoon character who was a slightly evil magician.

How long will you work on puzzle caches before you give up?
I’ve never really liked puzzles of any kind........sometimes Bamette will solve one and we’ll go find it. Don’t really like multi’s either but I will do them if they are local. Same thing with challenge caches........I guess I’m just a “ meat and potatoes “, “vanilla” cacher.

What town/areas have you most enjoyed caching in?
We really liked caching out west because the scenery is breathtaking. In general, though, we love the small towns and caching in the country. No heavy traffic, tailgating, etc. For example last year we started north of Jackson then Greenwood, Starkville, Tupelo, Oxford, Enid Lake......that was a great trip, way better than say staying in Nashville for a week ( and I like Nashville).......you might not rack up the same numbers but its way more enjoyable.

How long have you been geocaching, and what was your first find?
See #1 above.

Who usually goes with you when you go caching?
Bamette and I have cached together for 99% of our finds. At times in Missouri she’ll visit relatives and I’ll grab a few. I’ve also cached with Big Doggy and SC2 as a threesome and SC has made several runs with Bamette and me as well.

Do you do paperless caching?
Paperless is the only way to go.....for too long we carried stacks of paper and manually entered each cache into our GPS units. We use GSAK and Plucker software.

What kind of geocaching rig do you use?
We started with the yellow Etrex but after a couple of months I got two Magellan Meridian Platinums which I still use. I recently bought a Garmin 60csx which Bamette has been using.
Extensive field testing has shown the Platinum to be superior but I think she likes the display and no Magellan “ overshoot “. I’ve collected every GPS in the Meridian line which includes several Platinums. The best thing about the Platinum is a rock solid electronic compass which will walk you right to the cache.
For cache page information we use the Sony Clie’ and have some older Palm M500’s which work well also.

Why would you recommend anyone else to take up geocaching?
We love geocaching and highly recommend it to anyone who likes to be outdoors and travel a bit.

Are you originally from Louisiana?
I was born a couple of blocks from the river in old Mercy Hospital ( heck, I’ve even outlasted the New Mercy Hospital ! ) in New Orleans. Bamette is from Carollton, Missouri.

States you have geocached?
We’ve found caches in 33 states and hope to get the rest this summer.

What was your first event ever attended?
It was an event held some years ago at the sports bar on Veterans Hwy and Severn in Metairie.

How many caches have you found?
To date we’ve found 4503 caches.

Which type of cache container do you prefer over the rest?
I love finding different containers but if I had to pick one I’d go with the ammo can.

What was the most famous cache that you have found?
I guess the most famous would be the Original Cache in Oregon.

Do you use disposable batteries or rechargeable batteries?
MAHA PowerX NIMH batteries but its the MAHA charger that makes the difference.

Do you enjoy hiding or finding more as your part of the hobby?
I like hiding and finding about the same but you get to do more finding.

Do you have a personal goal in mind when you make a hide?
When hiding, sometimes I have something special in mind and sometimes I’m simply putting a cache where there isn’t any.

What is you favorite type of cache hide?
I like a unique container hidden in plain sight.

Out of all your hides, what are your personal favorites that you take pride in?
The View Carre’ would be my favorite followed by Chiefs Special #2.

What do you think the proper hide to find ratio should be to keep the sport fresh?
Regarding a ratio of hides to finds it has to be a “ sliding scale”...........a percentage will not work. I think most cachers could put out between 25 and 50 caches.

How did you end up getting into this wacky hobby?
Back in 2002 there was a feature article in the Living section of the newspaper featuring geocaching. It was love at first sight.

Team Bamboozle's Personal Note.
In conclusion, as many have said, the great people we have met through this hobby has been an unexpected bonus. I know I’ve met over a thousand cachers and they are all great folks, maybe because they share a sense of adventure and a love of nature and the outdoors.
