Geocache Description:

Here is a quick cache and dash as part of the church micro series.

There is parking very near the cache site but due to the proximity of a busy road please keep children and/or animals close by when approaching the site.
There is no need to enter the grounds of the church or graveyard to reach this cache.

St Owains Church, Ystradowen was built in 1867 on the foundations of a previous church. An older church was mentioned in records and was standing in 1291. It was demolished and the present one built on the same site in the same design.

The tenor bell was first cast in 1686 and was one of the first to be cast at Chepstow’s bell factory. It was given to the church by Sir Leoline Jenkins and his brother gave some land in ystradowen to help maintain the bell. Unfortunately the bell developed a crack in the 1980’s so this land was sold and the money used to have the bell recast in 1986 and hung in the church.

Today the church is still in regular use and as it happens, was where I held my wife’s hand in marriage almost 6 years ago. We celebrate our anniversary on Friday 12th Nov therefore I am laying this cache as a small anniversary present and dedicating it to my Wife Sue.

There can sometimes be many muggles around the area due to the close proximity to a pub.

You will require your own scribe for log signing.

Please replace the cache exactly as found to avoid un-intended visibility.
