Geocache Description:

The newly repaved Verna Dunshee trail is almost level, and circles East Peak. Although not very challenging, it offers unparalleled views along its entire length. At 0.7 miles in length, it is a quick, but scenic hike.

The Verna Dunshee interpretive trail meanders 0.7 miles around the east peak of Mount Tamalpais. There are 11 numbered stops along the route. Although the cache is located at the beginning of the trail, I highly recommend you hike the entire trail. You can pick up an interpretive pamphlet in the box at the beginning of the trail.

Verna Dunshee first hiked on Mt. Tam in 1913 while a student at the University of California, Berkeley. She and her husband, Bertram moved to Ross in 1920. Both became leading activist in preserving Marin’s open space for State and County parks. Verna Dunshee was president of Tamalpais Conservation Club in 1950 – 1951. The trail was dedicated to her by the California States Parks Rangers Association in 1973, the year she died, at age 80.

The cache is a nano near the plaque commemorating Verna Dunshee.
